United Mission Hospital Tansen celebrated its 70th anniversary in June 2024. I have been privileged to be part of the Tansen family since the 40th anniversary and to hold the director post since 2004. In that time I have seen the hospital grow from a 120 bedded non specialized hospital to plans this year to reach 200 beds. It has been encouraging to develop new clinical departments and see the next generation of healthcare workers carrying on the work started by our founder Dr. Carl Friedericks.
Our mission is
Inspired by God’s love, UMN MDT United Mission Hospital Tansen is a centre of holistic, quality healthcare and training, providing preventive, promotive, curative, palliative care and rehabilitation with special focus on the poor and marginalized.
Last year we treated over 100,000 out patients and nearly 12,500 in patients. The holistic care we give ensures that no patient is turned away for financial reasons. The hospital has a strong pastoral care team and also an enthusiastic community health department who provide preventive services and health education. The hospital participates in Nepal government projects such as the national TB programme and provides the ART service for the area.
Training is another important focus; particularly training health workers for the underserved rural parts of the country. The hospital runs regular continuing medical education classes for all clinical staff and gives opportunities for staff to upgrade their qualifications through scholarships.
We plan to continue to upgrade our services; having recently added an ENT department, the hospital will open a new postnatal ward soon and we hope to start a CT scanning service this year.
